Area Studies is a peer-reviewed comprehensive academic journal founded by Tsinghua University’s Institute for International and Area Studies and published by The Commercial Press. It publishes two issues per year. The journal aims to serve the development of area studies as a first-level discipline in China and is aimed at providing a high-caliber exchange platform for scholars engaged in areas studies. The journal concentrates on related research subjects, topics, theories, and methods while promoting new knowledge via specific topics and themes.
Since the publication of its inaugural issue in October 2022, Area Studies has focused on research topics, organising and publishing a series of original and localized research results, while also taking into account external regions and key countries outside of the scope of area studies. To further explore common research topics across diverse regions and countries, the journal has set up the “Feature Topics” section, which is dedicated to in-depth discussions around specific topics. This section aggregates research results from scholars with varied regional focuses across multiple disciplines, offering multi-dimensional and insightful perspectives on critical topics in area studies. Additionally, to advance the development of the discipline of area studies and related theoretical frameworks, Area Studies has established the Review & Critiques section, which showcases rigorous scholarly examinations and communications on academic viewpoints, methodologies, and theories.
