Tsinghua Journal of Field Research is a collection of scholarly papers published by The Commercial Press under the auspices of Tsinghua University’s Institute for International and Area Studies. Devoted to field research that combines onsite observation, surveys and in-depth studies, the journal examines field research methodologies and theories concerning a range of disciplines and topics, promotes systematic and innovative field research, explores the long-term development path of area studies on the basis of field research that values both basic research and diversity, with an aim to lay a methodological foundation for interdisciplinary area studies.
The journal is positioned as a collection of papers about the methodologies of area studies. It follows and discusses field research and multi-disciplinary development of area studies, and the theories, methods, ethics and case studies of field research. It advocates academic studies on the theoretical aspects of field research and publishes original academic papers on field research methodologies from multi-disciplinary, multi-national or cross-regional perspectives. With its inaugural issue released in the fall of 2023, the journal publishes two issues annually.
